Problem
The following issue occurs regardless of the anti-virus software installed (Microsoft Defender or any third-party), and the state of the accompanying real-time protection shields. When running the installation program, the Setup GUI displays an error message, indicating that Microsoft Flight Simulator is not installed, even though it is actually installed on the affected system. The installation program aborts, after dismissing the error message.
This issue impacts third-party stores users only, and whose system have Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11 22H2 and later installed, including current Windows Insider Program builds, and MSFS was installed from Microsoft Store (digital download from MSStore/Xbox, physical DVD or installed through Game Pass).
Cause
The root cause of the issue is at operating system level. Some changes made to the operating system caused the installer to be unable to get access to the Microsoft Store installation of MSFS.
Solution
While the installation user experience (UX) is being addressed for an upcoming update to the EMB-110 and future products by NextGen Simulations, and as of version 1.5.3, the old installer was completely deprecated. Temporarily, if you purchased the product from Just Flight or Flight1, you will have a 7zip-based SFX where you must manually specify the MSFS Community folder location. However, if you purchased the product from simMarket or iniBuilds Store, there is no installer executable, and the product is downloaded and installed using respectively the simMarket app or the iniManager app.
